Quiche Me I'm Irish

For David's birthday gathering we decided to have a brunch at our house because we usually gather with family on Sunday for lunch anyway. Of course that meant lots of quiche and a big salad but I also wanted to add a new element to the meal: bacon roses.

Some long stems and a tray of "rosebuds"

We made 3 types of quiche: chicken and broccoli, ham and cheddar, and spinach and artichoke (my favorite). I was trying to make an egg pie that was reminscent of my spinach and artichoke dip and I was successful.

The cream cheese in the mix added to this quiche (yum!)

Emi and I also opted to make David's birthday cakes. My grandmother (Nanny) used to make my birthday cakes and put dolls in them, so that's what we did for David. He requested a Batman cake so we made him a couple of bundt cakes and put Batman in one and The Joker in the other. He LOVED them!

I Think He Likes It!
That's a happy boy!

After brunch, cake and gift opening, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the back yard with the chickens.

I told David and his cousin Gannon that our Pecan Tree was enchanted and would talk to the animals when we weren't around. David wanted to go inside and see if the tree would talk to the sqirrels and chickens but I told him we had to be asleep before the tree would talk. I think they bought it.

After the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins left, the Little Ones went down for a nap and Emi and I hit Barnes & Noble for a little one-on-one time like we used to have. It was nice to check out the Bargain Books (I got Frangipani and Emi bought a Superwhy book for Aubri's upcoming birthday).
