Waiting on a Sign (Peace Sign)

Day 2 of prepping the yard and taking care of things we should have already done. I got the circle bed turned over and ready to go.

Sunday Funday

Today was gorgeous! We went to church, then afterwards met my parents at Ray's Smokehouse for some always yummy BBQ.

After lunch, Aubri and I got busy in the yard digging up a space for the Peace Tulip bed. I wish I could say we finished this effort. I got a nice outline shoveled out, but we found quite a bit of landscaping cloth underground with weed roots embedded so we did what we could for a while, and then we punted to go on a bike ride around campus.

I have 118 tulip bulbs to incorporate into this garden:
  • 54 'Clouds of Cotton' (purple and white)
  • 18 'Jelly Bean Jumble' (multicolor)
  • 18 'Wowie Kazowie Blend (multicolor)
  • 18 Red Impression
  • 10 Purple Prince

Potpourri

‎I should be sorting through 2014 pictures so I can make the annual Morgan Slideshow but I came across this article on making cheese. And this cool recipe for a clean eating Vegan PB Shake.

Also, this Spring-like weather reminded me that I totes forgot to plant bulbs in a cool pattern to enjoy in the Spring. I think it's not too late so I will need to run get some bulbs!!

Yesterday was a nice day off from work.  Scott and I were able to have a delicious lunch at a cool eatery we'd been wanting to check out for a while.

Wood Shop

Saturday, when we went in search of project and cleaning supplies at Home Depot, we wandered into the middle of a kidlet wood shop. We were looking for cedar closet liner planks (for my musty English dresser).

How serendipitous!

Movie Night Picnic Adventure

Ok, so the adventure part happened before the movie.

I suggested that we have a picnic and movie at home vice going to the theatre because the weather was forecasted to get yucky. Plus I wanted some different movie fare; something we adults might enjoy a little more. My mind went to pub grub immediately so Aubri and I went in search of the Branston Pickle that seems to be a staple of every "Ploughman's Lunch" I found while researching that topic back in September.

We were getting other groceries at Sprout's, so we checked with them.  No British delight. So later, we hit Forward Foods and landed some baguette, Stilton cheese and horseradish mustard, but no pickle chutney. The lady who helped us was kind enough to suggest International Pantry, which was the next stop on our way to the regular grocery store.

We were able to procure Branston Pickle there (along with some Truffle Aioli and Anchovy Paste!) and then we wrapped up the grocery shopping at the regular grocery store.

Boomerang

For New Year's Day I've been binge watching back-to-back episodes of Rehab Addict. This has caused me to add some items to my Living List and get some ideas to renovate our home without breaking the bank. During the latest episode, Nicole was renovating a kitchen in her turn of the century bungalow and the laminate backsplash in her kitchen is the same laminate that we have in our kitchen and Emi's bathroom.

Lovely Counter

I was surprised she didn't tear it off. In fact, she said "I LOVE the boomerang countertop and backsplash. There's not a chance I would rip it out!"  Instead, she replaced the torn backsplash with more boomerang laminate and explained how to make the laminate stick. That little tip will pay off in the near future in repairing our kitchen countertop.

We've lived with the boomerang laminate for a little over 9 years now and I think we could power through 9 more in our little retro kitchen. Also, the cabinets in that kitchen looked a lot like ours. I have considered painting them white, but now I think I might just do what she did; sand them down a little and apply a fresh coat of polyurethane.

In one episode she recovered a couch with a painter's drop cloth for $12!!! She also made pillows with the same drop cloth. I am thinking I might be reupholstering that couch in the sun room very soon!!
