Villa Milagros

It was an hour drive from the Manila airport to my mom's resort house in Calamba, and we were super tired, so we all pretty much crashed out when we got there. The next morning, I was awakened by construction noise next door. And roosters. I was warned about the roosters and I even brought ear plugs, but I got up to check out the house in daylight.

Calamba city is a component city in the province of Laguna, Philippines and is known as the "Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines" because of its numerous hot spring resorts. Calamba lies on the northern slopes of Mount Makiling, a dormant volcano.

Mom's Place in Calamba City

The cats were not official pets, but they got scraps of food from me on occasion.

I did not get what was up with this wall. My mom said that a previous cousin (RIP) who managed this place used to sell birds and dogs and maybe tried to put fish into this little pond. I would think that it would be too hot for fish because the marble floors were not cool like you'd expect. I think it had to do with the hot springs and dormant volcano nearby.

My cousin refilled this pool for us with water from the hot springs and it was delightful. The routine that developed during the week we spent at Villa Milagros was to sleep in, explore nearby sights and then relax in the pool with Red Horse or San Miguel beer in the evenings.

This little resident snowball stole my heart. Puppy breath and razor teeth.

Breakfasts were awesome!  Most mornings my cousins would make garlic fried rice, eggs and longanisa. Sometimes there was pandesal. Always it was good!

Breakfast of longanisa, garlic fried rice and eggs - yummy!
