Cinco de Derby Party

Oh boy! THAT was fun!

This year I kept it simple and just "Put a bird on it!"

It was a perfect day to have a yard party!

Where my hat?

Was nice to have Gail and Nils at my place for a change of scenery.... not that I mind being in their neck of the woods. #napaismyhappyplace #iwannagoback

We had burgoo, derby pie bars, ham biscuits with mustard butter, quesadillas and plenty of salsa and guacamole. Our lovely guests brought jalapeno poppers, smoked pork, sushi, mint julep bundt cake and cupcakes, mucho guacamole and wine and tequila to share for the occasion. We also had bottled margaritas (nope) and lake party sangria (yum!).



My friend Tammy and her band (RC and the Colas) played for us and that was so awesome! 



They played Girl from Ipanema, Route 66, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Ms. Celie's Blues and so many other great oldies. Love her and them!



It was so great to visit with old friends and new. There were 6 of us from my high school graduating class (thirtysomething years ago!!!).

I forgot to get a picture of all of the ladies in hats but I did capture the guys in bow ties! (wheet whew!) 



And I got a picture of my girls in their purple fascinators.



After the race was over and the band was done, someone started the fire up and conversations flowed with the sangria and juleps.

Fire! Fire!

I wish I'd gotten more pictures after the race, but it was nice to just mingle... what a great time!
