verb (used with object) British 

1. Military - to overwhelm; surprise and destroy, disable, or massacre.
2. Informal - to prevent from happening or succeeding; ruin; wreck.

    Thanks for the vocabulary lesson, Nolita. I prefer a house that looks "lived in" over one with plastic covered furniture. Your home sounds happily, lovingly lived in!

      Oh, our house is definitely lived in and I prefer it also. I'm part of an online discussion group and a British woman has been using these words and I love new words so I thought I'd share.
