Ushering in the Christmas Spirit...

...or maybe I'm rushering in the Christmas Spirit since it's before Thanksgiving...I'm not being respectful of the turkey...so sorry.

Oh Yeah!
Lovely Ornament

I will honor the turkey next week for sure (Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, FYI!) but this week I am in the Christmas spirit! Or in the Christmas music spirit anyway.

  1. I had NO idea they made Christmas candy corn. huh

That is funny she recalls that song from growing up. Do they still play it? Did that store make it through the recession? I sure hope so.

It's ok to be in the Christmas spirit. You are a Christian. It's good to get excited. I'm getting the bug as well. We have a tradition of putting up on Christmas tree on Thanksgiving day and taking it down Christmas day. (I'm sick of it by then. haha) But, this year we have no idea where we can put it. My dad's things have taken over our living room. It's fine but, if we are going to have a tree this year I need to put my thinking cap on. Thanks for the reminder! See if you weren't thing about Christmas already I wouldn't haver remembered to figure out where to put the tree and it would have been a fight. haha ok maybe not. But still, thank you.

  2. Jackie, they make way too many varieties of candy corn. I once got some chocolate covered candy corn. My favorite way to enjoy it is mixed in with peanuts. Hard to get your hand out of that mix!

They do still play the jingle and it's considered a Christmas song in these parts. BC Clarks is alive and well - http://www.bcclark.com/

W.r.t. Christmas trees, I have had one up since May, but it was unintentional. Emi and I snagged a small tabletop one at a garage sale to hang our mismatched earrings and small decorations on. I put it on my bookcase and it's stayed ever since. Perhaps you could get a tabletop tree?

We used to wait until Thanksgiving but the last couple of years I wanted to get the tree up early. We usually take it down around New Years -- depending on if it's a live tree or not. We're planning on the fake tree this year because our budget includes travel and hotel but we may need to get a live tree to replace one we lost this past summer (with 100+ days of 100+ temps). We'll see. I got a Christmas Tree candle already out to help with the rushering...

    Any suggestions on songs?

  3. Okay, let's try this again! I had a comment ready and posted but for some reason I'm back to square one. Darn it!

So I am excited for Christmas music this year. If I had it my way my tree would be up and I would be listening to Christmas music already. I do have lots of faves and sufficeth to say, there are usually lots of good versions. I particularly enjoy some Sinatra or Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, etc. These are my ultimate faves. But then we have ones like...

    White Christmas-The Drifters
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
Its Beginning To Look A lot Like Christmas
Baby Its Cold Outside-Willie Nelson & Norah Jones
Go Tell It On The Mountain-James Taylor
The Christmas Shoes-Newsong (a must have)
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree-Brenda Lee
O' Holy Night-too many bone chiiling versions to
    List
The Angels Cried-Alan Jackson & Alison Krauss
Gma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer-Dr. Elmo
The Christmas Guest-Johnny Cash or Gpa Jones
Santa Baby-Marilyn Monroe has a good one
All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan-Kenny
    Chesney
All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth-
    Spike Jones (of course!)
Bad Little Boy-Ray Stevens (must have)
Paper Angels-Jimmy Wayne (a must have)
12 Days of Christmas-Straight No Chaser (a bit of
    A different spin on it)
    Little Drummer Boy-Vienna Boys Choir
Angels We Have Heard On High
Mistletoe-Justin Bieber (I cannot believe the Bieb
Made my list this year. Ugh)

  4. Stevus!

We have SNC's "12 Days" - I can't believe I didn't list it. I remember talking to Emi about part of the song coming from "Africa" (Toto).

I also have: Jackson 5's Santa Claus is Coming to Town and White Christmas (Buble & Hotel Cafe)

I haven't heard Mistle toe yet but I will check it and the other songs soon!

Thanks for the suggestions and I am looking forward to next week and Simmons christmas too! BTW, Emi sings solo at her school program tonight - so proud of that girlie!

    Love you too!
